On April 20, 1945, twenty Jewish children were hanged at the Hamburg school on Bullenhuser Damm. SS doctor Heißmeier had previously conducted "medical" experiments on the children. To conceal this crime from the advancing British forces, the SS, under the command of Obersturmführer Arnold Strippel, killed the children, two prisoner nurses, two prisoner doctors, and 24 Soviet prisoners of war.
